St. Tammany Parish&#8216;s 12th Fire Protection District recently received an award and an $81,000 insurance refund for its exemplary safety record. The department, which covers a 63-square mile area surrounding the city of Covington, received a &#8220;Safest 70&#8243; award from Louisiana Worker&#8217;s Compensation Corporation, an honor bestowed on only 70 of the company&#8217;s nearly 17,000 clients, according to a news release from the fire district.

A week after winning approval in the Louisiana House, two anti-drug bills cleared the  Senate Judiciary C Committee without opposition Tuesday and are now headed to the Senate floor for further debate.

State Rep.Kevin Pearson (R-Slidell) yesterday pre-filed House Bill 10, which would ban hallucinogenic substances such as &#8220;25-I&#8221; in Louisiana.
In November, Pearson announced he would author legislation to prohibit the drugs after three people in New Orleans were hospitalized after taking the drug, 25-I; one of them died. 		<description><![CDATA[Mandeville City Councilman David Ellis (District I) said he agreed tonight to cover 100 percent of employee healthcare costs, but cautioned municipal workers to be prepared for increased insurance premium costs in coming years. 
At tonight&#8217;s Council meeting, Ellis joined the other four members in asking the administration to cover a $44,000 increase in health insurance costs by utilizing funds made available by a decrease in Worker&#8217;s Comp premiums. The economic trends report tracking the third quarter of 2012 has been released by the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation.
The housing market improved, with existing housing unit sales rising 4.3 percent in quarter-over-quarter comparisons for the third quarter of 2012 and 2011, and 14.5 percent year-to-date, with 779 homes sold in the third quarter of 2012, up from 747 in third quarter 2011.

The train will be arriving on Saturday, Nov 10 in Newark and will make its way to both Bayonne and Hoboken.

After successful litigation by the Louisiana Public Service Commission in matters relating to the multi-state System Agreement, a ruling from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), has been issued ordering Entergy to begin issuing refunds to Louisiana consumers, Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta announced today.

St. Tammany Parish&#8217;s economy continued to grow in the first quarter of 2012, making strides in indexes ranging from employment to housing sales, statistics compiled by a parish economic development group show. Unemployment during the first quarter was 5.9 percent, down from 6.3 percent for the corresponding quarter in 2011.
