Very low unemployment and a boost in home sales has economic development officials in St. Tammany Parish saying they’re experiencing a “steady” recovery from the recession on the North Shore.
Tempering the good news are flat home selling prices and decline in new business starts in the third-quarter version of the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation’s “Trends Report.”

The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation (STEDF) and the Louisiana and Business Technology Center will host a Business Assistance Forum (BAF) on Jan. 24, 2012, at the Southeastern Louisiana University Building on Koop Drive near Mandeville.

The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation today released its Trends Report showing second-quarter data for the local economy.
Unemployment in St. Tammany Parish rose to 6.4 percent, up from 5.9 percent in the second quarter of 2010, but remains considerably lower than the state and national rates of 7.9 and 8.9 percent, respectively.
