REGION: Bono Mack tapped to lead GOP women’s policy committee
Rep. Mary Bono Mack has been named chairwoman of a new Women’s Policy Committee made up of two dozen GOP members of the House of Representatives.
The group is described as a “formal Congressional caucus with the goal of raising the profile of GOP women in their roles as lawmakers … and providing a unique, unified voice on a wide range of critically important issues”
Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, said women often see the world in a different context.
“We have some really unique ideas for moving our nation forward, and we’re excited about working together to find solutions,” she said in a prepared statement.
House Speaker John Boehner welcomed the new caucus.
“I am confident the Women’s Policy Committee will offer a fresh, new perspective on a vast array of challenges confronting Congress and be an important voice for the Republican Conference,” the speaker said in a statement.
The committee will develop consensus positions on issues ranging from health care to homeland security, according to its mission statement.
