Funny how state lawmakers can take a slam-dunk-easy concept and make it hard.
An effort to deny state employees retirement benefits while in prison was rejected by the Louisiana House of Representatives because it might be unfair to those convicted of crimes related to their employment, presumably even if they stole from taxpayers.
The fractured logic of the 56 who voted against House Bill 224 on Monday included the argument that a member of a private retirement system doesn’t have that constraint.
