The Harrison family is lucky to be alive.
Shortly after 7 a.m. today, a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the family’s home at 201 Broad St., Slidell, and knocked on the door to awaken them.
Fire District 1 received a 911 call at 7:26 a.m. and was on the scene in seven minutes. The fire was under control shortly after 8 a.m.
Five adults and an 18-month-old child in the home escaped unharmed.

Acting on a phone call Thursday afternoon, St. Tammany Sheriff’s deputies found an illegal methamphetamine lab in the garage of a house in the Kingspoint subdivision just east of Slidell.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Cpl. Sean Beavers said the dispatchers got a call around noon Thursday. A guest at the house at 312 Foxcroft St. said that there was a meth lab in the house’s garage.

Jay Batt has received every major endorsement in the race for District A, but the ones that matters most may be the list of former opponents.
Virginia Blanque, who ran against Batt and finished third in the Feb. 6 primary with 15 percent of the vote, has endorsed Batt in the March 6 election.

Local political pundit and columnist, Jeff Crouere emceed a forum for all the Slidell candidates running in the March 27 election during the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday at the Northshore Harbor Center.
All the candidates except for mayoral candidate Rickey Hursey and Council District C contender Valsin Vanney were at the luncheon, and they each had three minutes to speak to the audience.
